Hair colors, whats the differance? Great article I found

Hair Color, What’s the difference?

The statistics tell us 80% of women are choosing to color their hair today. This could be a result of baby boomers holding off the inevitalbe gray hairs or maybe just trying to enhance tones from dull and lifeless to bright and vibrant. Whatever the reason, once you’ve made the decision to color yourt hair, you’ll have another immediate decision to make . . . what type of hair color should you use.  There are three types of hair color to choose from when considering taking the plunge,.

Permanent hair color leaves a stronger line of demarcation, and does not fade out. It is the most difficult color type to maintain since on average our hair grows a ¼ inch per month. The ammonia is an alkalizer that opens the cuticle layer, allowing the hair color molecules to penetrate into the cortex; this is where the color molecules remain. Alkaline is the ammonia in hair color that opens the cuticle and allows the color to penetrate. This process opens the cuticle and may leave your hair frizzy and rough-looking. This is why following with a conditioner is always necessary. The conditioner closes the cuticle which allows it to lay flat increasing shine and easing style time.

A semi permanent hair color does not penetrate into the cortex; it just coats the outside but only lasts up to 8 shampoos. This would be used more for someone not wanting a commitment to a coloring at all but wants to add just a little something to their current hair style.

A demi permanent hair color gently penetrates the cortex, and depending on how dry and/or damaged your hair is, it could last longer or even get darker than expected. A demi permanent hair color is usually used when you want to enhance your current hair type and you’re not quite read to make a commitment to a permanent hair color. Demi permanent hair color will usually last a little longer than a semi permanent hair color but rinses out after several weeks.

In my 10 years as a hair stylist I have worked with many leave-in conditioners and styling products that provide thermal protection. There are a lot of good ones in today’s market! I recently was given the opportunity to take part in the development of a new product which I am excited about called Keracolor which provides thermal protection and enhances hair color. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new leave-in!

A hair show experiance

This weekend I attended the Insalon show at the River Center in St, Paul. Hair shows are one of the most inspiring form of education I believe in our industry. Its education overload for sure! You have product line classes, Hair cutting coloring, runway shows and vendors up the wazoo! It can be very overwhelming if you don't make you plan of attack ahead of time because its very easy to get distracted and miss out a great stuff. This show I attended on my own and honestly it was great, I saw way more presentation then normal and really focused on what I wanted to learn. I started both my mornings with a structured business class, being a stylist we usually never get to see the other side, which is numbers!! Tracking you business is so important and setting goals. These shows really give you a little kick in the ass and give you great ideas to take back to the salon. I just love attending big events like this, being inspired is the most incredible feeling

A day in Stillwater

This October has been one of the weirdest weather months! We have had 80 degree weather when its usually starting to cool down for fall. But I'm not complaining I have loved it! So we took advantage of it and strolled the streets in stillwater and along the river with some good friends! We sat along the river (snuck a bottle of wine) and had bread and cheese. It was so perfect out, I even had a little sunburn.

Wedding spot

I spent the last weekend in Sioux Falls where my fiances family lives. I was so great to one, see my fiance, who has been there for the last three weeks, and two spend some good time with my mother-in-law to be. She is awesome I'm so blessed that we get along so well. She doesn't have a daughter just two boys, so we sat on the couch and drank wine and chatted like highs school girls for hours!! Oh so much fun, but anyways while I was there of coarse we did some wedding stuff. Were going to have a reception in Sioux Falls after Mexico so we went and looked at a place. Its the roof top of a Holiday Inn that's has a pretty cool view of the city. We laughed when we got in there because there clearly was a reception the night before, broken glasses plates and party favors all over. But it was so fun to see that cause it look like a good time had been had and that's exactly what I want. I found some left over flowers even in colors I'm considering, tangerine! I took them home of coarse!!!

WEDDING!!

I know I said I was gonna talk about planning my wedding, but until now I really haven't done to much so......

Mexico here we come!!!
We both always wanted to do a destination wedding, it just took us some time to figure out where. Ever since I was a little girl I would dream about my honeymoon and the beach, I never really saw myself doing a traditional wedding. I was too excited for the honeymoon so why not just get married on the beach!!! We picked our date 10-11-12 Kinda a fun date. I joke to Justin that now he will never miss an anniversary, but my mom says not to hold me breath!!

Must haves...

My Last must have, yep you guessed it a hair product!!
             Moroccan Oil!
Hair saver I would say, Its made from argon oil from a plant, its and antioxidant with helps repair damaged hair and keep it healthy. It also ads a great shine to the hair with an amazing scent! I carry a little bottle in my travel bag always. You can apply it wet before styling and even on dry hair to help revive ends and maintain frizz!
