A hair show experiance

This weekend I attended the Insalon show at the River Center in St, Paul. Hair shows are one of the most inspiring form of education I believe in our industry. Its education overload for sure! You have product line classes, Hair cutting coloring, runway shows and vendors up the wazoo! It can be very overwhelming if you don't make you plan of attack ahead of time because its very easy to get distracted and miss out a great stuff. This show I attended on my own and honestly it was great, I saw way more presentation then normal and really focused on what I wanted to learn. I started both my mornings with a structured business class, being a stylist we usually never get to see the other side, which is numbers!! Tracking you business is so important and setting goals. These shows really give you a little kick in the ass and give you great ideas to take back to the salon. I just love attending big events like this, being inspired is the most incredible feeling

A day in Stillwater

This October has been one of the weirdest weather months! We have had 80 degree weather when its usually starting to cool down for fall. But I'm not complaining I have loved it! So we took advantage of it and strolled the streets in stillwater and along the river with some good friends! We sat along the river (snuck a bottle of wine) and had bread and cheese. It was so perfect out, I even had a little sunburn.

Wedding spot

I spent the last weekend in Sioux Falls where my fiances family lives. I was so great to one, see my fiance, who has been there for the last three weeks, and two spend some good time with my mother-in-law to be. She is awesome I'm so blessed that we get along so well. She doesn't have a daughter just two boys, so we sat on the couch and drank wine and chatted like highs school girls for hours!! Oh so much fun, but anyways while I was there of coarse we did some wedding stuff. Were going to have a reception in Sioux Falls after Mexico so we went and looked at a place. Its the roof top of a Holiday Inn that's has a pretty cool view of the city. We laughed when we got in there because there clearly was a reception the night before, broken glasses plates and party favors all over. But it was so fun to see that cause it look like a good time had been had and that's exactly what I want. I found some left over flowers even in colors I'm considering, tangerine! I took them home of coarse!!!

WEDDING!!

I know I said I was gonna talk about planning my wedding, but until now I really haven't done to much so......

Mexico here we come!!!
We both always wanted to do a destination wedding, it just took us some time to figure out where. Ever since I was a little girl I would dream about my honeymoon and the beach, I never really saw myself doing a traditional wedding. I was too excited for the honeymoon so why not just get married on the beach!!! We picked our date 10-11-12 Kinda a fun date. I joke to Justin that now he will never miss an anniversary, but my mom says not to hold me breath!!

Must haves...

My Last must have, yep you guessed it a hair product!!
             Moroccan Oil!
Hair saver I would say, Its made from argon oil from a plant, its and antioxidant with helps repair damaged hair and keep it healthy. It also ads a great shine to the hair with an amazing scent! I carry a little bottle in my travel bag always. You can apply it wet before styling and even on dry hair to help revive ends and maintain frizz!

Must haves.....

Candles!! They can make an atmosphere feel so comfy an warm! I like to have candle burning when I'm hanging around the house, watching movies or cleaning! Its one of the first things I do when I get home or in the morning. Smells really have and effect on our moods, they can be calming and comforting, and always changing with the seasons One of the reasons I probably love Minnesota so much. Bath and body works has mini candles that you can even travel with!Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Stress Relief Eucalyptus Spearmint Scented Candle, 4 oz

Must haves....

Body oil is second on my list! Sounds a little strange but this is my go to moisturizer in the summer for my body! I apply it in the shower when I'm still wet so it applies smoother. I ads a nice glow all over the body which makes skin look young and healthy! Since I apply in the shower it takes half the time time then applying lotion so then I remember to do it daily, one on the most important things for ageing skin!

Must haves!!

Ive seen recently in beauty magazines celebrity " must haves", things they always travel with and some of their favorite beauty items. So I thought I would share some of mine!
My first and favorite is my tinted moisturizer!!! I don't love to wear alot of makeup, and my skin is usually on the dryer side, so I like to apply a tinted moisturizer in the mornings, Its light so you don't feel it and has a little color to it so it ads a nice glow to your skin! Perfect for summer boating or just for a  little color on lazy days!Youngblood Mineral Illuminating Tint - Body 5.9oz

shatter

This display says it all! So many people are affected by breast cancer ever year! OPI polish came out with a shatter polish in pink to raise money for breast cancer! I love the color and the shatter is so fun because you can use it with other colors!
This hits home for me because I have quite a few clients that are affected by it. I feel that almost everyone knows someone who has been affected by it. One of Justin's close friends mom has been in remission for a few years now. So this past June we ran a race for her and my clients. It was a ton of fun, my brother in law ran for a client of his as well and my step brother got on board, so it was me and the boys!

Can't wait to run again! And paint my toes as a reminder!

Im in love with bob....

In my last blog I showed you a cut im just in love with! I want to show you a few more inverted bobs.
After having longer hair for about two years my fiance finally convinced me to cut it short. Hes a short hair man, and he was actually right about my style because I love having it shorter! Its scary to make the change at first, but also very exciting to try something new! Its just hair it WILL grow back!
'inverted'

I find that shoter cuts like these are fun to play with products. All tho you may have to do your hair more, it still takes about half the time.

With styling my clients I start with a smothing cream or gloss, you want a product that will protect your hair from the heat and have a little hold for fly aways when blow drying. I cocktial this with a volume foam I apply at the roots for lift. Then blow dry until almost dry then round brush the top section for lift!! Pretty easy.

shorter styles

hair      I really have fallen in love with this style this season, its sexy yet sleek  and easy to take care of!  This is a longer version of a inverted bob, which is shorter in back and cut angled down into a longer front. You get the look of a longer style but yet its shorter, off your back and sometimes shoulders.
Whats great about this cut, when cut properly that is, is that its pretty easy to style. a few products, a few tricks and a off to a good hair day!

The more volume the better...

Clients are always asking me how to create more volume. This is where products come into play!

Lets start with long thicker hair. When hair is wet start with a heat protector and anti frizz procduct, I recommend morraccon oil.

Root boosters are great when applied to the roots on top of the head. You can let your hair air dry or for quicker results blow dry with finger tips. When hair is almost dry flip your hair over to finish drying hair up side down! This will create the volume through the top of your hair where you want it and not through the ends which can create frizz!
To finish, use a thermal protector and section hair in sections no bigger then your flat iron or curling iron. Smooth through the ends to remedy any frizz and create a more finished look!!

My love of products...

I have a lot of clients that joke about taking me home to do there hair in the morning! Yes, your hair stylist does usually style your hair better and make it look easy. But, do you have the same products at home as they used? Products actually make a big difference in the way your hair turns out. Just make sure you understand how the products work and how to use them. Watch how they are applied and don't be afraid to ask questions!! In my upcoming posts Ill talk about some of my favotite products and how to us them.
One of my favorites
